Chartered's Technology Approach
Today's semiconductor manufacturing business begins with technology, and Chartered is committed to providing leading-edge capabilities. We have a proven track record of implementing advanced processes and capabilities across various technology nodes: baseline digital logic, mixed-signal, RF CMOS, BiCMOS, embedded memory - all supported by wafer production facilities. Chartered is among the world's leading producers of silicon, with a focused strategy of developing manufacturing technologies tuned for system-level performance requirements. Chartered's process technology offering runs from mainstream to leading edge, with multiple offerings in between.
Our technology roadmap is customer driven and we continue to focus on providing the right suite of technologies for the unique requirements of the "convergence" era. The silicon technologies we develop and make available to our customers are optimized for successful implementations in various types of system-on-chip integrated solutions.
Technology expertise is key to success in our industry. At Chartered we are helping to accelerate the technology convergence taking place in the electronics industry, by anticipating the changing needs for our customers. Whether our customers are integrated device manufacturers, fabless, or system companies, they need the fundamental building blocks in silicon to address the cost-effective system solutions that today's and tomorrow's convergence applications require.
Chartered invests in a select partnership network of leading suppliers to pull together an entire process tailored to our customers' needs, while at the same time providing production-proven processes to ensure first-pass success. We offer design solutions for a variety of applications and process nodes, giving customers valuable freedom of choice when it comes to toll and IP selection. Customers receive early access to design rules and other important manufacturing specifications, allowing them to incorporate these much earlier in their design cycle. Our technology offerings include foundry industry baseline standards, an attractive feature for customers who may need sourcing options.
Chartered currently operates five fabrications facilities in Singapore with the capability of producing more than one million 8-inch equivalent wafers per year and a total capacity approaching 1.5 million wafers by the end of 2002. Our sixth fab, a state-of-the-art 300mm facility scheduled for pilot production in late third quarter 2004, will be able to expand the capacity by producing in excess of 30,000 12-inch wafers (67,500 8-inch equivalents) per month. Chartered plans to continue investing aggressively in its facilities and equipment to maintain a technology leadership position and to be able to offer our customers the manufacturing capacity they need when they need it.
